DON’T EAT IT

Let’s revisit the old argument about toxic and chemicals.

A former client recently asked me to research the ingredients in a supplement they’d been given. It got me thinking…I find people agreeing with things without really questioning it. Statements like…
If you can’t pronounce something you shouldn’t eat it. How credible is this kind of statement though?…Ask a few people to pronounce quinoa…

So…

What do you think of monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides? Would you eat foods containing them? These are sugars and starches, typically found in vegetables like broccoli. Suppose you pick up an item and check the ingredients to see short and medium chain triglycerides. Do we have a problem with these? These are naturally occurring fats found in butter.

We could go further…

Suppose an item contains milk solids. This is also known as whey and casein…two components of milk.

And…

Lipase, cellulose, protease. These are enzymes which help digest protein. So, many will look at labels and see things they can’t pronounce, to be told these items are “poisonous”, “chemicals” or “bad for you”. This is far from the truth, because many of these “deadly” chemicals are the scientific names given.

So the takeaway message, it’s always a good idea to keep your foods simple. But instead of avoiding foods because you can’t pronounce ingredients, how about doing some research and finding out exactly what’s in the foods… Education is one of the best things we could do, especially when it comes to nutrition.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
